Entrepreneur Work Visa Category

It is a temporary entry class visa that allows self-employment in New Zealand. It also provides a pathway to residence.

Requirements:

A. a minimum capital investment of NZ$100,000.
  • Applicant has to nominate funds and/or assets and demonstrate ownership of these funds and/or assets.
  • These funds/assets can be owned jointly by the principal applicant and partner.
B. in addition to investment capital, applicant needs:
  • sufficient funds to finance the business;
  • and, provide maintenance and accommodation for the period of the Entrepreneur Work Visa (for principal applicant and any dependants).
C. a business plan specific to the proposed business.
  • Business plan must be to establish or purchase a specific business in New Zealand;
  • be specific to the proposed business;
  • be no more than three months old on the date the application;
  • the business plan may involve the purchase of an existing business.
D. applicant needs to have sufficient business experience relevant to their business
E. the applicant should not have been involved in bankruptcy or business failure within the 5 years preceding the date their application was made; and the applicant should not have been involved in business fraud or financial impropriety.
F. applications must meet a minimum score of 120 or more points, in order to be granted an Entrepreneur Work Visa.

The points can be claimed on the basis of:

  • Age of prospective applicant
  • Amount of capital investment
  • Self-employment and/or senior management experience relevant to the business plan
  • New full-time employment of a New Zealand citizen or resident
  • Bonus points for a business based outside of Auckland
  • Points for unique or new products, or services
  • Points for approved export business
G. English language requirements:
  • Principal applicants needs to have International English Language Testing System (IELTS), which shows an overall band score of at least 4 in the IELTS General or Academic Module.
  • Or, evidence that they have an English-speaking background. This needs to be accepted by a business immigration specialist as meeting the minimum standard of English.
H. applicants and any partner or dependent child/ren accompanying them must meet health and character requirements for residence.
