New health roles added to the Green List

11 April 2023

New health roles

The New Zealand government is adding 32 new health sector roles to the Green List, which is a list of occupations that are considered to be in demand in New Zealand. The government is also moving all Green List health roles to the Straight to Residence pathway, which is a pathway that allows eligible migrants to apply for permanent residency after two years of working in New Zealand.

The roles being added to the Green List are across the health system and considered critical and nationally important. The new roles also cover specializations within those fields.

The list includes roles in social services, education, and the justice sector that support the delivery of health services.

The government says that the changes are being made to address the shortage of skilled workers in the health sector. The government also says that the changes will help to attract and retain skilled health workers in New Zealand.

The changes are expected to come into effect in July 2023.

Eligibility

Eligible people will be able to apply from 29 May 2023.

To apply for the Straight to Residence visa applicants must meet the requirements for their occupation as shown in the Green List.
